Have a friend that might want a Towlite.
Am I correct in saying the early Towlites had wood frames. What year was the frame switched to Aluminum?

By looking at the brochures, 1999 was the first mentioning a steel frame. No mention of what it was in any before that.

My 1976 2176B has square tubing. It may be Steel, but because there was no Rust, I believe it may be Aluminum. And, it was coated with the lite green primer type paint.

Oh, wait, I don't think "Towlite" even existed back then! Mine was/is a Classic.

Bruce, that was zinc chromate primer (sp). In avaition, aluminum parts were cleaned, aladined, dried and primed. Very lucky you had little or no corrosion.

Right You are Tree! This old West Nile Brain couldn't remember it! Used it myself and specified it for commercial Jobs and as an architect. Just the Primer Red for Steel.

If I tore my Hi Lo down to the frame, I'd clean ALL the aluminum and I'd find the aladine somewhere, apply that, then the zinc. Only corrosion after that is cause I didn't do it right.

So am I correct in saying there are two Hi Lo “classes”, the Classic and the Towlite, right?
So to make the towlight, wood framing for the body was actually *lighter* than using aluminum (or the steel).
I thought some had box steel, and some were box aluminum?
Oi vey, my head hurts. We need a chart for this stuff!

Steel frame
I have a 1994 Hilo Fun Lite and it has a steel frame. I know cause the back part of the roof leaked and the frame was really rusted. But all good now. A trailer that cost me $2500. actually cost over $3500. when done. I Still have work to do on it. Not like new but in very good shape.
