In search of hi-lo or towlite. Any models to avoid?

Hi,

I'm searching for hi-lo or towlite trailer. Interested in a smaller one from the late 90's. Are there any models which I should avoid?

If the model has a shower, is it safe to assume it has a hot water heater?

Thanks in advance,
Tony

Welcome to the forum. Look at the brochures in the reference library on this site.

What size are you looking for? What are you towing with? Check out Ebay and craigslist, and the link below.

Here is a pre buy checklist of most of the things to look for.

This was taken from NDgent's post here on the forum. It is a great go-by list. You can do a search of thinking about buying and find his post to read it first hand.

Basically, start with the visual items –
1. Exterior
• Look for water stains and discoloration on inside walls and around ceiling anywhere vents, skylights, windows, etc. exist.
• Push and prod with your hand on the inside walls for soft spots (which could indicate a water leak and a damaged or rotten interior wall).
• Check for bubbles in the wallpaper (a sign of delimitation or water intrusion)
2. Interior cleanliness of the unit-
• Look for water stains and discoloration on inside walls and around ceiling anywhere vents, skylights, windows, etc. exist.

3. Test appliance functions –
• lights
• fans
• refrigerator
• air conditioner
• heater
• water pump
• range hood
• stovetop
• oven (if equipped)
• microwave (if equipped)
• stereo (if equipped)
4. Lift System-
• Does the unit raise and lower properly
• Check the lift system for hydraulic leaks (puddle under the trailer)
• Check the lift cables to see if they are in good shape and not frayed
• Check the seal between the upper and lower body halves for tears or damage
5. fill the tanks to the top and check for leaks
6. Battery
7. Solar Panel (if equipped)

Thanks. The link to the brochures helps tremendously. I've owned various campers and tent trailers in the past, just not a hi-lo.

Looking for anything under 22'6". 19'' seems like a good size. Must sleep four. Dodge 1 ton is my tow vehicle.

Wow, a dodge 1 ton will tow any size hi-lo. Any reason with going with a 19 footer? maybe parking it. Go with a classic or fun chaser, the early towlite models 93 thru 2000 have wood framing in the walls that may cause future problems.

We camp several times a year but most of the time the camper sits unused. I don't want anything too large to store.

Thanks, I saw a towlite for sale within those years. I'll try to avoid it :)

My Towlite has steel tubing in the walls!!!!!

Congrats on the 1908T Purchase

We bought this model in Sept of 2011. Have enjoyed it but have had problem with lift points on the door side of trailer.

There is wood where the cable meets and lifts the top and it has compressed and bent the metal at that spot for both front and back cables.

I caulked the roof and the seam along the bottom of the top but the damage
is allready done.

The trailer tows great and is easy to back into RV spaces. I like it when I go by myself because it is easy to set up and maintain.

Best of luck with your "new" camper. And welcome to the forum !!!

Ray
