During our regular cable maintenance on our 1907T today (using PB Blaster to wipe/lubricate the cables), we found that the back/right cable has one broken strand, but the other back/right strands on that cable are still intact. Hubby said the other 3 cables (2 front and 1 back/left) look good. Should we replace all 4 cables, or just the back/right frayed cable?

We assume the cable(s) can be ordered from J&R Repair???

We checked the forum but didn't see specific information about replacing just one cable versus all cables. Whatever input you can provide will be appreciated!!

In the meantime, are there any concerns with us using the trailer (raising/lowering) until we replace the needed cable(s)????. We have several trips planned in the next two months.

Check out this set of instructions. Cable replacement in my 1998 HiLo 24TD 3-3-2010. I would advise you to replace all four cables as this author did. It is cheaper to get the material versus buying ready made. If you have to use the HiLo before repairs can be completed than carry a clamp big enough to clamp the cable together.

Also - hubby is confused about the clamp suggestion. He said the clamp would not fit through the pulley. Do you mean to clamp the cable to the frame once it is raised?

yes do all 4 of tem save yerself ! mike very easy to do. not the big deal everyone makes it out to be. 2hrs. all 4 maximum. ty

I think, given what you have to do to replace one, you might as well replace them all. That way you will get even "stretching" and wear all the way around. If one has started to fray it only makes sense the rest are not far behind.

The clamp would be put in place after you raise the trailer up. Fix the cables and you won't need the clamp.

Thanks for the input. We will be replacing all 4 cables before next spring's camping begins.

Is the process for replacement the same for most models? I have been searching through and have not yet seen instructions for the replacement of the cable.

Yes, the process for cable replacement is essentially the same for all models. A link to a complete thread on this is here: https://www.hilotrailerforum.com/f61...justment-5875/ You'll need to buy the cables at a hardware or home improvement store. You'll also need the cable termination hardware, thimbles, swages, a swaging tool, etc. and eyebolts to replace the adjustment bolts you currently have in your trailer. You need a "come-along" too, to stretch the cables as you mount them.
