my husband is thinking of purchasing flexseal to undercoat our hi-lo, has anybody done anything to undercoat their trailer? We live in nw Pa. and drive to Fla in January

Pros and cons on that

I have heard pros and cons on undercoating. The PA salt is not good for anything. Undercoating or not it would pay to spray off the salt, if possible, soon after you traveled. A car wash would be a good thing to find.

Are you anywhere near me in NWPA? Did you deal with Daley Camper Sales?

We live in erie county near wattsburg and we have dealt with daley's in the past. We bought our current hi-lo from boyer's
in erie. 31 ft with permanent bedroom in the back. I love it!!!!!!
After reading reviews on flexseal i think he's changed his mind , plus with shipping would be over $40.00

Hi neighbor! I'm quite familiar with Wattsburg, I've traveled through there many times while working for the Dept. of Potholes.

I know some manufactures are against using undercoating, especially on the flooring because it is better to leave the material exposed to the air. On the frame and other metal, cleaning, priming, and painting any rusty spots with Rustoleum may be sufficient.

Anybody want to add to that?

Good point Rich. I don't think salt has any harmful effects on wood, but if moisture gets in through a small opening, and then can't dry quickly, wood can rot. I like the idea of "spot treating" the metal parts (what I think you are recommending) myself.

I was told that some warranties could be voided if the flooring gets undercoated. I guess we don't have to worry about that with HiLo at the moment.

My 2701 had undercoat on it when I purchased it. It appeared to have been factory installed, So I just used the spray cans of undercoat from Wal-Mart to touch it up.

undercoating

yes, i just undercoated my 88 22L according to j& r's recomendations. my insulating sheet was taken off by the previous owner in maryland. I used regular spray undercoating fron the auto parts store, I needed 5 cans about 5 dollars each. just make sure that your wood is dry and clean before you spray. I was told by jim at j & r that this was the way the original hi-lo's were waterproofed/insulated. you don't want the wood to get wet, warping and delaminating will start and continue then floor replacement is nesessary. hope you have a good trip to fl.

After several hundred miles on dirt roads I did have a problem with dust in the lower cabinets. At some point I will fix this little irritation and I would think under coating might work there.
