Looking for a way to remove old stickers from fiberglass end caps on '87 FunChaser. They are the Good Sam stickers that appear to be some sort of plastic rather than vinyl, and are baked on pretty good. Have tried my heat gun, but it doesn't soften the decal up enough to peel off. It almost seems like the stickers have become part of the surface. Not sure what a chemical remover/dissolver will do to the fiberglass finish. I've found some rubber buffing wheels on the internet, but have no experience with those and the kids at the auto parts stores aren't much help. Thanks in advance for your input.

As for the sticky residue I have found that WD40 works great if you looking for something that is likely just laying around the house.

I have used the wife's hair blower, a plastic putty knive, and Goo B Gone (sp?) I would be afraid to use a regular heat gun.

They make a decal, pinstripe, sticker removing tools. I like 3m 03612 for about $25-30. It's basically a big pencil eraser you can mount on a drill. It makes quick work of stickers or pinstripes and at least on normal car bumpers or fenders doesn't hurt the finish under.

I tried removing pinstripe from a car fender, I was worried about the paint finish, so I used a heat gun from about 1 ft away with the low setting, it loosened the pinstripe, I was holding my fingers close to the direction of heat, so as not to get it too hot, I was able to remove pinstripe with a plastic car trim remover, what was left was the hardened glue underneath, then I used clean rag that had some paint thinner, I was able to get all the glue off.

Hersbird, I've seen those rubber wheels, but don't have any experience with them. Wasn't sure how well it would work on old baked-on sticker without damaging finish underneath. Guess I'll give it a whirl. They aren't vinyl, more like plastic, I imagine they are almost as old as the trailer is.

I wonder if you called a body shop if they would be able to advise you. Advice is usually free.

I used the 3m wheel on a 96 Chevy Truck with old stickers and pinstripes, it was a black truck so I was worried but it did great. I had to use my plug in drill as it was too much constant running for the cordless. I have also used it to take really old boat registration stickers off an old fiberglass boat from the early 70's bit that was a small aera.

Naptha should work without damaging the plastic or fiberglass.
