Question Can we install a hitch adapter on hilo rear bumper

Hi all,
Has someone installed a hitch adapter on the back of their HILO. Mine is A 23 feet 2007 and their is already a spare tire attach to the right rear bumper.
Like to be able to carry bicycles or put a storage rack.
Love to hear from those who've done this and how if possible.

Thank you all and enjoy your camping ⛺️

Chris

Chris,

Do a search on bike rack. There are a few ways people have done it for bikes and storage.

When we first started pulling our camper it bounced so bad I had fear of losing a bike and kept us from doing it. With the addition of the weight distribution hitch I think it would work. But still I carry four bikes. I am trying to put one on the front of the truck two above the tongue and the old one on the back to catch the spray from the tires.

But what about the math is the axel big enough for the bikes. Do they leverage the tongue weight.

All our bikes get broken down and go inside. It’s the worst.

How do folks tie them on/lock (photos please)I need to get off the bmx and into an ebike

Default Bike racks or storage on back bumper.

Many threads on this. Extremely bad idea as the weight is way too much for the flimsy bumper. I have seen our HiLo dealer weld something further under the HiLo. Perhaps someone can explain this better. We put our bikes on the trailer bed. Folding bikes work very well. Put your bikes in your truck bed.

Thanks for the reply. I did notice that this bumper was a little flimsy. I thought I would talk to a good welding shop to reinforce it so I could install one hitch. If possible. Tongue weight is not an issue for 100 lbs or less

Mine had a 2 inch receiver hitch installed in back when I bought it used. I got an adapter to fit a slide in bike rack and it comes out just far enough to clear the spare. I recommend spending the money and finding someone to do that. I never liked the idea of carrying stuff, bikes or boats, on top of the trailer. Too many holes to drill to get it done right.

Thanks for the reply,
Interesting if possible could you take a few picture of your hitch and post them. I could may be use as the same setup on mine. I assume it was welded in place and the square number was re-enforced with a metal plate across it?
Thanks again for you reply!
Take care Chris

I had a hitch adapter installed on the left side of my 2509C. I refrabicated a carrier to tote a gray water tote or a cooler; worked great for me. Beach (I'd post pictures but I don't know how)

Default Installing a receiver Hitch on back of 23 ft hilo

I bought a receiver hitch off Amazon and had a welder weld it under back bumper to the frame of the hilo. I then had an extention for the receiver hitch to get it out past thr bumper / spare tire. I welded s carrier to that to carry extras

Default Lesley Hi lol Canada

Bikes on rear flimsy bumper a bad idea. Tried that and it twisted so bikes bumped along the Trans Canada Hwy.!! We replaced the rear bumper tube with one of same outside dimensions but heavier duty ie smaller interior dimensions. 2 inch receiver hitch was welded to the tube.
Only drawback was that, while the sewer house fitted, the attachment on the end was too big. So we left the original piece at the outside end past the frame . This was welded to the new heavier duty tube and the attachment fitted No problems from then on. Good luck.
