Default Cracked front/rear top end panels - fix?

2005 27T

New member, and happy to see a dedicated site. This is the second HiLo we've owned, first was 17' Funlite, then a 31KS Trailmanor - sold after five nights of camping! - traded in for 27 HiLo during our camping trip. De we get extra points for dedication?

I hit a large, sharp bump on freeway while towing (road construction) and noticed next day that the white end panels on the top half had cracked right where they go from roof down over the curved edge - cracks are about a foot long. Both were on the left side, and the same distance from the edge. I think that something flexed the top when we took the hit (?). I checked inside and on the roof, and there was no damage inside, but the roof looks like maybe there is a raised rib under the cracked part. Nothing definitive though - may be my imagination.

I sent email to HiLo parts to see if replacement panels are still available.

Barring that, I sealed the cracks with silicone, but they are ugly.

Is there any material I can cut out to make a decent patch with to 'artfully' cover the cracks? I thought about taking the panels off, and reinforcing on the inside, but what a lot of screws and caulking! Other fixes/ideas?

By the way, the 17' Funlite was when we had two kids. After they left home we got the larger HiLo. Makes sense - hah!

Thanks!

Reno
