Help with Furnace (NEWBIE)

New thermostat failed to work. It fell apart when I took it out of the box. I should have stopped there, and returned it, but I tried to put it back together (multiple times with no luck). Worked on the old one and found where is wasn't making good contact. Reinstalled it and at least its working now. I will probably get another new one in the near future. Next, the Water Heater.

Please tell us what brand/model thermostat you got so nobody else gets one. Sorry to hear that. I have a simple Honeywell model which has worked flawlessly for a number of years.

It was a Honeywell, nonprogramable. Maybe I just got a bad one.

In your first post you mentioned the thermostat controlling the A/C, it does not. The A/C is controlled only by the knobs on the unit. You are aware that the A/C has to be plugged in on the dedicated outlet in the bathroom?

Rich, I was a little confused, as the A/C unit has a switch on it for heat. I finally figured out the furnace operation, and all is good. I checked out the water heater this morning, and it works great. Next is the operation of the commode. I'm saving checking the chalking around the various skylights, A/C unit on the roof for last. Then we are ready for a short weekend madden voyage,

Papa, the "heat" switch in your A/C may or may not be operative. You have to have a "heat strip" installed in the A/C for it to be functional, I believe. The A/C is NOT a Heat Pump, as far as I know.

The commode, is simple! Deposit and flush!

Thanks Jack, that would explain why nothing happened when I turned it on.

My wife is the navigator too, never uses one finger, nor tells me to make a u-turn she possible. She is also an audible speed control monitor.
