I'm finally almost ready to actually take my Hi-Lo camping.But I've only had the fridge hooked up on 110 electric it worked great (last summer).Thing is i cant remember shouldn't i hear some noise? I reread the original manual on it a Dometic and followed them.Well i'll see in the morning .it also has 12v ,i'm assuming that it would then run off the Hi-Lo's battery,yes? Well the other problem ,the reason i'm writing is i'll be needing to run the fridge on gas,so as i said i'm following the manual and it tells me to pull knob (D) but i guess the previous owner broke it off,i can see a plastic white thing in the hole where the knob should be but cant grab it.i'm going to try to take the knobs that are there off ( do they come off ?), unscrew the metal front and see if i can then pull (D) knob and see if the fridge works on propane correctly or not?????? i see My other problem pertaining to the fridge knob is the knob can it be replaced since it broke off or will i be forced to do some stupid rig job .Don't really want to do that i'm trying to keep things as original as possible and if the fridge works great i would like to restore it to proper working order,Thanks for reading this and hope you can help.

The 12V is to keep the unit running while towing. Most people I know run it on 12V for about 24 hours prior to heading out. You should be able to find parts and pieces with no problem. I'm sure a know should be available and replaceable. I don't think they would expect you to buy a new unit for a knob. Most of the owners manuals have a parts breakdown. If you can't find it in the library here, you should be able to find it on Google. I haven't ran mine on propane for so long, I can't recall any noise that it made. Let us know how it works out for you.

You should not hear any sound from the refrigerator since there are no moving parts. Always pre-cool your fridge on 120 volts prior to heading out and make sure all the food is cold when put in. Only run the fridge on 12 volts when hooked to the tow vehicle and going down the highway because it can drain your trailer battery in a short while. If you can't find your model's manual in the library go to the company's, Dometic or Norcold, and you may be able to find manuals there that can be downloaded and printed.

I run my fridge on propane gas while traveling after cooling it using AC power while plugged in over night.

Is you exhaust vent closed off when in the trailer is lowered for traveling?

Take a look at the Forum thread below. There has been quite a debate about running a fridge on propane gas while traveling. Also, make sure to turn the propane off before filling your tow vehicle up at a gas station.
