Default New guy here

Hi, my name is Frank, and have owned my 2006 17' Hi Lo since new. Looks like a good forum to learn new things here. Have been thinking about putting LED bulbs inside, any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi Frank, welcome to our happy band. We'll let you slide with your intro post in General Discussion. This isn't like some forums.

I highly recommend replacing ALL your interior lights with LEDs. I did it several years ago. Just make sure you get SMD/SMT type lights instead of the ones that are in small "bumps". The SMD/SMT lights are brighter and more reliable.

There are many sources now. A place I've always liked is SuperBrightLEDs.com, because they list the lumen output as well as the color temperature of their products, and, they will replace any that are defective. They ARE somewhat more expensive than some other sources however.

For the interior lights, you just need ones that will fit into the sockets in the fixtures. Mine are all flat panel type lights with 9 LEDs per light. You can also use ones that look more like the incandescent bulbs you are replacing, as long as the light distribution is 360 degrees. Stay away from any bulbs with a color temperature above 5500K. Higher color temps will be bluish, and will be hard on your eyes.

- Jack

Thank you Jack, appreciate the good information. Those bulbs should really help when remote camping. Frank

They REALLY do! I calculated that my Watt demand with ALL interior LEDs turned on equaled that of just ONE of the old incandescent bulbs.

I also found some bright LED taillights (#1157 I believe) and replaced those to improve my brake warning and turn signaling to the rear. If you do this, be sure to use RED LEDs, not white ones! The red covers of your tail lights work by filtering out all colors except red, and the white bulbs will actually appear dimmer than the red ones.
