Well I'm new to RV'ing and my first is a 1994 Hi Lo 18' that has been garage kept and well taken care of. I really wasn't aware of HI Lo until I stopped at the dealer and they had just traded this in. I haven't even picked it up yet and am so excited.

Garage kept is really a huge plus. If possible ask the previous owners about the service record. In particular, when was the last time the bearings were packed and the trailer was caulked. If it's been awhile then this is something that you'll want to address before you take it on any major trips.

Something that helped us a lot when we got our Hi-Lo, was playing with it in the back yard. Learning to operate all the appliances, discovering where every little thing is at. Pretending that we were setting the camper up at the park. We discovered so much, and had so many questions.

Do we have the tools to handle this?
Do we have a spare for that?
Do we know how to operate everything?

It's huge fun getting to know your camper. Read the manual, if you don't have one, then get one from the library here on HTF, don't worry about the year model. Ask lots of questions, everyone loves to help. In no time you'll be the one helping someone else.

Thanks for the tips. The RV dealer I bought this from has gone all over it prior to pick up. I went yesterday and got the tour and demo on all features. They were great to deal with. The main reason for this purchase isn't to travel but that may come later. I rent a camp along the Potomac River and am tired of tenting it. It is only 10 miles from my home and it will be parked on the lot all season barring high water. The RV dealer is halfway to camp so any parts I need are easily accssible. The previous owners had all manuals and paperwork so that is a plus. I look forward to using my new toy.

I picked up a 1994 214TD last week and took it out for the weekend. I had no users manuals, no tours, nothing.

Fortunately, with the help of another Hi-low owner just two doors down in the KOA we were able to make it through the weekend.
