Default tire problem

Has anyone else had their tires rub on the top of the fender well? I have a 1996 22ft fun chaser. Tires are st 205/75r15. Noticed on the drivers side of the trailer.

I just checked the brochure for Funlites of that year: https://www.hilotrailer.com/home/then#1990 There was not a 22 ft Funlite offered, but there is a 21 and a 24 footer.

I suspect a prior owner has installed oversized wheels and tires on your trailer. The brochure lists 13" wheels for all Funlites in that year. If 15" wheels ALMOST fit, then I suspect 14" wheels and appropriate tires would clear the top of the tire well.

Default Had a tire rubbing problem.

The prior owner of my 1990 25ft. Classic owned a tire shop. He put slightly wider tires on that rubbed the wheel well. My HiLo dealer caught the problem and did some wheel well repair with sheet metal. Put tires on the HiLo twice and got the right size. When we went to put tires on my 1996 it was a Bear to install for a mechanic at a huge garage. Didn't remember to let some air out for much easier install. Doesn't matter how many years you have owned a HiLo you can always learn something new.

Thanks for the reply. My trailer is a fun chaser not a funlite. It is 22ft and the tire size for it is 75r/15. I did go with class D tires which call for 65lbs max pressure compared to class c which call for 50 max. Class c was on it when I got it. When the trailer is jacked up I have clearance. And yes you definitely have to let the air out to change a tire.

OK, don't see any brochures for Fun Chasers, so I have to take your word for the tire size. If the tire is rubbing the top of the wheel well, the axle (if it's a torsion axle) may have collapsed, or, if the trailer has spring mounted axles, they may have weakened, allowing the trailer to "settle". These problems can be rectified and you should do so.

As long as the tire size is the same as OEM, it does not matter if you go with Load Range C or D, it does not change the tire radius. But, as you have reasoned, Load Range D is a better choice.

I'd repair the springs or the axles.

your trailer is listed in the 1996 classic brochure. the wheels are 15x6 and the original tires are st205/75r15. you should look rubber suspension system and replace the axles if the rubber has sagged or broken. that model year had rubber suspension system instaed of leaf springs and they will sga after a few years of use or storage.
