Default Towing with the top slightly elevated?

I just bought a 2008 Travelite 19T. The previous (original) owner told me not to tow with the top down against the stops or it will get banged up. Is that legitimate advice? Seems like a good way to stress the cables but what do I know, I'm a noob!

It is supposed to be all the way down. Towing with the top up at any level can put undue stress on the lift system and may seriously damage it. I don't know what the previous owner was thinking.

Rich just gave you good advice! Put the top ALL the way down when you tow the trailer!
