Default Wheel, Tire and Air Conditioning Problems

We recently purchased a 2000 17ft HiLo trailer, and it works very well (mostly). A couple of issues I am dealing with now are;

1) There are problems with both the wheels and the tires. The wheels have negative offset, so the tires are very close to rubbing on the outer body of the trailer. The tire problem is because of the size of the tires (205/75R15) , which makes it impossible to remove or install a tire without removing pressure from the tire. My solution for the wheel offset is simple, just buy replacement wheels with no offset. Regarding the tire problem, I do not know how to solve this? I researched several brands of tire, and some of them ar slightly thinner, but the thinnest one (Kenda Loadstar K550) does not seem to be readily available, and even this tire is only .3" less in width than the current tires (assuming all the data from various sources is directly compariable. If anyone has had a similar experience, or any suggestions how to solve, please let me know?

2) The Air Conditioning problem is simple, the fix does not seem to be. The AirCon does not run, and I traced this to no power on the romex that comes into the unit. The other end of this same wire does have power , so there must be a break somewhere in the wire. Does anyone know the route that this wire takes between breaker and AirCon, especially the route between the lower and uppper body sections?

Thanks and Best Regards

Nathan

Default Thanks for the Feedback

Dear KWDStalker and Campthewestcoast,

Thank you both for the quick responses. I will look at the trailer in a couple of hours, but this sounds like the problem.

Best Regards

My prior HiLo was a 2200TL and, if memory is correct, it had 13" rims and tires. Are you sure the wheels are original equipment? I always felt larger rims and tires might have been better, but possibly that is your problem. (I just checked with tirerack and Goodyear Marathon tires don't come in 205/75/13, so now I'm not sure what the size was, but there should be a sticker on your unit indicating the size of the original equipment.)

Default Wheel and Tire Sizes According to Sticker

Mark,

I check on the VIN sticker, and the recommended wheel size is 15 x 6, and the tire size is 205/75R15. The trailer currently has 15 x 6 wheels on it, I am wondering if I only need to change to 15 x 5 wheels, which will result in a narrower overall inflated tire?

Thanks for all your help

Nathan

Default Tires

My 97 21ft. towlite has ST175/80 13's. I've talked to other people that have the same year and model as mine and we have same tight distance between the finderwell to brake drum. I could not remove or install an inflated tire. I noticed this when I was home repacking the wheel bearings for the first time. I had the trailer up on four jackstands to make the job go a little faster.

My trailer was designed having a fixed low outside finderskirt over the tires

I installed new Bias ply tires ST 175/80 13 because the sidewalls of the tires don't "balloon out" as much as radial tires. Even with the tire deflated it is still a tight fit.

I aways carry a portable air commpressor so I can inflate my spare after I get it on the trailer.
