Hard to believe that is such an old unit!! You have done an excellent job with the restoration. Be sure to stay tuned to this site for helpful hints from other owners, especially Jack in Arizona and "Camp the West Coast" who has made numerous modifications. and there are many others.:)

Angel; what kind of paint did you use to re-paint the outside? What advice/lessons learned do you have for someone thinking about doing it?

Hi-Lo paint job at home.

fredetl, here's a photo of the paints we used to paint the exterior of our Hi-Lo.
It took us a few days to paint the exterior; be patient and use a sander as we did, otherwise the paint wont stick. I used different grit sandpapers; 400 to 600 grit worked good for me. Wipe it down with sticky cloth before starting to paint. Paint the upper section first, (while it's in the down position) and let it dry; then work on the lower section. We put a coat of primer first and then one coat of paint. We actually used paint rollers and paint brushes. Mask off all your window trim. We painted the Hi-Lo inside our garage, and then outside in the up position when it wasn't windy. We did it just last spring and it's holding up nicely; I was a little scared to even consider doing it, my wife talked me into it. Go ahead give it a try, you can do it!! We did!! Hope this helps.

Also please look at my other thread post under the title: "Years of hard work, it's finally finished". I posted a couple of pictures of us working on it; and I must say that my wife is a real trooper!! Around that time I had to have a surgery/procedure, but she kept working on it whenever she could, when I couldn't.
