My wife and I picked up our trailer today. Our truck is a 2007 F-150 small V-8, with a tow package. We drove around 120 miles and didn't notice any problems. At times, the AC on top of the trailer would move left and right.

This is our first time towing a trailer. Is there an allowable sway when towing?

Thanks,
Vince

It would be most desirable to have no sway. Even though Hi-Lo is a good towing trailer sway can still exist. If you have the hitch set up properly, the trailer loaded on the tongue heavy side, and the tires properly inflated you can still get some sway with cross winds and passing trucks. Emergency maneuvers can introduce sway that could cause loss of control. I have a Reese Strait-line Dual Cam hitch that has built in sway control, sway is almost non-existent.

I would be more concerned right now with the A/C shifting left and right. Maybe it's the shroud that is moving and needs some attention. If it is the A/C itself there is a major problem that needs taken care of. I would be afraid of the seal not being intact and water leaks.

I agree with Rich totally. You should not be seeing any sway at all (in my opinion) if things are set up right.

I have an Equal-i-zer hitch and it has built in sway control. I have never experienced ANY sway at all - towing my trailer first with a Nissan Frontier and now with my F150.

And, if the A/C is moving on the trailer - get up on the roof (you can walk on it) and check it out - carefully!
