Being unhappy with the single light bulb in trailer tail lights,Iwanted LED.I removed the tail lights off my 97 towlite.Remove light socket and wiring off back plate of tail light. Remove all high ridges of plastic using sanding drum on dremel type rotory tool.I used universal 10 light LED light kit from harbor frieght tools($39.99 for trailers, inc. wiring). The LED was to large for the interior space behind the org. lens.I removed the rear housing of the light to get to the guts of the LED , then with a hack saw I cut about 1/2 inch off the top and bottom of the LED guts(careful not to cut the PC board that hold the LEDs)This light is made with plastic studs(non-tapped for theads). I used #4 screws 1/2 long with 2part plastic weld expoxy to mount LED guts to org.light back plate & snap on org. lense. Remember to add lengths of wire (solder&heat shrink tubing)for easier hook-up as the LED wiring is to short(I had to cut wires from sealed rear housing)MAKE SURE OF A GOOD GROUND.

Awesome idea, I'm sure many of us would love to see a picture of it. :)

I'll try to post some pictures but it may be at the end of april. Also,I was able to use the small LEDs expoxied inside my org. lense for side lights & licence plate light. The color coded wires were different(I used a simple current tester to fix this).

Led light conversion pictures

Here are pictures of my conversion from stock tail lights to LED lights. I picked up the LED light kit from Harbor Freight for $40 - a universal trailer light kit with wiring. Prior to my LED light conversion, when I was towing during the daylight other drivers were unable to see my brakelights on my 97 Tow-lite. I am very happy with the results.

Well done, CTWC -

I like the improved look. Might chase that one down myself...

I have read somewhere here in cyberspace that using red LEDs behind the red lens works best. I will never be able to find that information again, but if I do I will post it.
