15T emergency escape window issue

The latch that opens the escape window above the sink in my 2008 15T cannot open the window because it is blocked by the window knob. This is a design flaw and safety concern. Are there any crank-style knobs that can be used instead that won't get in the way when lowering the camper top?

Why would the window knob that cranks open the window be a factor if the escape section of the window opens outward? picture of your window would be helpful
