Default Ford F150 Possible Brake Problems

Hi Gang,

Some of our members are Ford F150 EcoBoost owners and I wanted to bring a couple issues to your attention.

2011 and 2012 models with Ecoboost engines have electric vacuum pumps that are subject to failure which results in reduced braking. Ford has sent out letters to owners of those vehicles which extended the warranty to 150,000 miles or 10 years. If you have already had the pump you will be reimbursed for the cost by presenting your paid receipt to a Ford dealer. My wife's cousin had that happen on his 2011 F150 not long ago.

2013 and 2014 models are being investigated for a possible recall for a brake fluid leak that could cause total brake failure. Here is a link to that subject: https://consumerist.com/2016/03/04/r...failure-issue/

I've had a fairly lively discussion on this subject at my F150 forum. You can read some of the comments and thoughts about it here: Possible Braking Problem in 13-14 MY Trucks - F150online Forums

One idea that came up was to take a look at the brake fluid reservoir before setting out. I hadn't thought of that, but it seems a simple and prudent thing to do.

That's the smart thing to do.

Yup! I hate it when such a simple, smart idea eludes me.
