Question '81 18'hi-low not lowering

My hi-low is new to me. Bought it used 2yrs ago. I used it 3 times and lowerd fine. Then she started to creep down slow. The final lower was almost 5 mins to lower. I put her up to unpack from camping and now she won't lower at all. Changed switch and solenoid, and used fully charged battery. Still not working. I can hear the safety release when the cable is pulled to lower, she just won't move down when I push the switch to lower. I also tried to lower with hydraulic release but that won't engage either. Were should I start my trouble shoot? Thankyou, Charley.

Have you lubed the lift system? The guide bar, cables, pulleys, etc. depend on proper maintenance. The guide bar that parallels the hydraulic cylinder can bind and even bend if not cleaned and greased on a regular basis, causing resistance to up and down movement. There could be an obstruction in the hydraulic line, but I don't think that would happen unless dirt got into the reservoir. The lowering solenoid valve could be the culprit, but if you turned the manual release valve and it didn't help kind of eliminates the lowering solenoid valve, which is separate from the raising solenoid, from the problem. I'm just putting out possibilities, I am not an expert.

Charley, have you tried bumping the switch in the raise position to get pressure off the safety release? Sometimes my safety release will move some but not be entirely disengaged. If I bump the switch in the raise position while pulling on the safety release it will disengage, and the top will lower.

Don

Try bumping it up and then pull the release cable and try to lower. It may have settled on the safety bar.
