Default hydraulic cylinder removal?

Does anyone have any advise on how to remove the hydraulic cylinder.
Does it matter if the top is up or down?....any help would be appreciated.thanks.

The top should be down, so that there is no pressure on the cylinder, that I know, after that you just have to unbolt every thing that is holding the cylinder in place. Some trailers may be slightly different. Remove the hydraulic lines fist, then the cable pulleys on the cylinder, should be a strap holding the pulley end up remove it, remove the large pin in the end, have a jack or some thing to hold it up when removing stuff, I may have missed something so look around. It's raining here so I am not crawling under mine to check. Good luck.

Thanks....I got it out....quite a bear...not as easy as I thought it would be. Of coarse I had limited space to work on it and lying on your back makes jobs like this fun,,. Now off to get it rebuilt.

Default Hydraulic Cylinder Removal, Replacement, Repair

In Aug of 2010 I went thru the same thing. Take a look at the following threads that I posted under the Hydraulic Lift System.

Hydraulic Cylinder Parts: 8-10-2010
Part I, Cylinder Removal: 8-19-2010
Part II, Forces: 8-22-2010
Part III, Hydraulic Cylinder: 8-27-2010

The threads with comments ( especially Forces ) are a gold mine of Info. Good Luck, Ed Lansing

Thanks Ed,

Good info. Waiting to get mine back the shop, should be ready Monday, said the rebuild would be about $78.00...was leaking fluid back throuh..much cheaper then buying a new one. Plus I had pulled my pump/motor and the went through it and it checked out fine, no charge for that. So hopefully all will go well with the re-install and be as good as new. Thanks again for info.

Default Re: hydraulic cylinder removal?

Off course it matters top of the hydraulic cylinders must be down. You can find the step- by-step guidelines for the hydraulic cylinder removal online.
