I am a new owner of a 28er. I just had the hydraulic cylinder rebuilt and I mounted it. Before I attached the 4 lift cables, I decided to activate through the raise switch as a test for operation and any leaks. I had noticed a thread or in the manual to bump the raise and lower switch 3 seconds in both directions to charge the hydraulics. So I bumped the raise switch and heard the motor. Bumping the lower switch....there was not a sound (other than the click of the solenoid) or contraction movement of the hydraulic cylinder rod. I bumped the raise side of the switch again and got an extension of the hydraulic piston rod.
I closely read the manual about the hydraulic system and came up with the following assumption; motor raises the top half of the camper and top half weight brings the top back down and the hydraulic fluid retreats to the reservoir as the hydraulic piston rod contracts?
Recent history of this camper from PO. The guide bar was bent due to it not being clean and lubricated. The top half of the camper was stuck on the way down with the front hanging lower than the back (all even side to side). The hydraulic piston rod's threaded end sheared off and ended up on top of the thrust pulley plate. (that was fun disassembling that mess!)
Any troubleshooting assistance is appreciated.
