Default replacement of release safety cable 1993?

hi there. I need to find out if anyone has (or has a schematic/instructions) on how the replace the safety release cable on a 1993 Hi-Lo. as I can not put eyes on it currently (trailer and person trying to repair is in another state) I am looking for advise. the top is in the up position and the release cable is no longer attached, as I under stand it. any help will be appreciated.
I need to get this repaired so that we can enjoy the unit once it is brought to CO my state. thanks in advance for your time.

Steve,

If you haven't done so already, look at this thread:
http://www.hilotrailerforum.com/f22/...isengage-3406/ There are a number of photos and descriptions in it that may help you.

I do not know how the safety release cable is routed on a 1993, but here is a description of my 2008:

The cable itself is a small diameter, stranded wire (wire rope). Crimp fittings are used at each end. Both the cable and fittings are standard items available at hardware stores.

Starting inside the trailer, the cable comes out a round bulkhead fitting on the side of a cabinet. The end is looped back on itself and a cable crimp fitting is applied. This fitting acts like a stop and prevents the end of the cable from going back through the fitting. A finger can be put in the loop when pulling on the cable to release the mechanism.

Inside the cabinet there is a small diameter length of nylon tubing. The cable is routed inside this. From what I can see this is done to keep the cable from getting pinched, or bound up by items stored in the cabinet. The tubing and cable exit the inside through a hole drilled in the floor of the cabinet. At this point the tubing ends and the cable is exposed.

The cable is threaded through a hole in the end of the safety bar. Once again, it is looped and crimped with a fitting. This is what keeps the cable from being pulled back out of the hole on the bar.

The operation is simple. The bar pivots at one end and its weight keeps it in the down (safe) position. Pulling on the cable from inside the trailer pulls the end of the bar up, therefore disengaging it. Once cable tension is released the bar pivots back down.
