Default Trailer Lift Switch

I have a question that most of you will think silly. Here it Goes. Beside of the lift switch is a small cable with a finger pull. What exactly is that for? I pull it when I raise and lower it, but what does it do? I didnt think to ask the previous owner. What happens if I don't use it. Enlighten me please.

Default You need a manual...

That is the safety catch that holds the top half up in case the lift system settles or fails. When you raise the top you should hear the catch drop into place when the top reaches the full up position. Only when you lower the top do you need to pull on the loop to release the catch. Sometimes to get it to release you may want to press the up button to take some weight off the catch. If you don't use it the top won't go down.

I know, you already knew all of that, you just wanted to see if anyone else did.

Default lift switch

What kind of switch is used for the lift switch? Just got a 1986 funlight to rebuild and it's missing switches and wiring by the door where the switch should be. Just a hole in the wall. Pictures would be nice too. Thanks

You need a single pole double throw (SPDT) spring loaded rocker or toggle switch. It would be momentary on-off-on. Here is an example:35-695-BU: GC ELECTRONICS: Electromechanical I didn't see anything listed at Radio Shack. It doesn't have to be high current as it only actuates the lift and lower solenoids.

Radio Shack does have a dpdt momentary toggle switch that will work, you only need to use half of the contacts. http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...30#tabsetBasic

As RichR stated it is a spdt.
The most important thing about this switch is it SHOULD/must be a "momentary" /spring loaded switch!
Because..... you will remember to turn it off if going up due to the motor squeal. You won't remember to turn it off going down, and will drain your battery down from the solenoid. I share this so others will NOT do it! It will ruin your day.
