Default Holding Tank Replacement

Hi, gang..

First post on the forum but not new to hi-lo trailers.

Looking for a replacement blackwater holding tank for my '68 bon biyage 200.

Have the old tank out and it measures about 31.5 X 21 " X 5 inluding flange

Any ideas?

Richard

Welcome to the Forum!

There are so many sizes and shapes of holding tanks for sale. If you do a Google search you will see. To save yourself a lot of work trying to track down the right one give J&R Repair a call. All they do is repair HiLo trailers. They would know what tank you need and maybe could supply it. Sometimes they are hard to contact but don't give up, they are usually a very busy pair of guys. Home - JR REPAIR

I should add, tanks usually come with only the outlet. You have to cut in and cement the proper fittings to them. So don't throw away the old tank, you will need it for measurements, etc.

Why are you replacing the tank instead of repairing it. I have repaired tanks on 3 RV's I have owned and never had a repair fail. Get back if you need info on repairing.

I think that repairing would be a wonderful idea. Can't find an adhesive that will stick to this stuff. Appears to be polyethylene.

Am looking at a plastic welder off craigslist.

I'm wide open for any suggestions.

Default plastic welder

I have played sith plastic welder few times mainly repairing broken plastic items in automotive trims, like door panels and such, and I wasn't really impressed with the results, maybe I was using cheap harbor freight Chinese welder, it was basically melting the plastic and using plastic filler, I believe I could have gotten better result with JB weld or using fiberglass repair method.

I have repaired at leased 4 over the years and none failed. I used fiberglass cloth and ABS cement. ABS cement found at Lowes in the plumbing dept. Clean the area to be repaired well with MEK found in the paint dept. Get the above and do a test area to see if it sticks. If the test works and you need more info, get back here. Use the can of cement that is just for ABS instead of the all purpose cement for ABS, PVC, CPVC if you can get it.

Google RV salvage yards in your area. It doesn't need to be out of a hi-lo, just one that would fit. If you have room the next size up is a plus.
