Default Generator Space

Is it possible to fit a 3000-4000 watt Onan (LPG or Gas) generator in a Towlite 17t trailer? My thanks go out to you if you know.

Only way I could see to do it would be a rack on the rear of the trailer without losing any interior floorspace which in a 17 foot trailer would be a major piece of real estate. You could build a sealed box and cut a door on the outside and install venting but you would have to lose some space inside the trailer to do it.

Default Generator option

So how were they able to make a 2500 watt lpg generator available as a factory option then?

When was it an option? It certainly wasn't available in 2007 or 2006. I cannot imagine where you'd put it. You'd need space for cooling and venting the exhaust too.

The 2009 brochure shows it as an option on all but the 17 foot trailer.

I believe the optional generator was placed underneath the trailer on the driver side. I think they were Onan made for that type location. My dealer friend told me about them. I think they were expensive and quite rare.

If it fit under the trailer they would have had to make a special model with more ground clearance cause if you put one under my trailer it would be sure to hit something in transit. If the trailer was raised to give more clearance then it would be feasible but I couldn't see it on a trailer with standard ground clearance.

It wasn't a conventional generator as we know it, and it fit standard HiLo models. I am going try and track down what they looked like, I always want to know.

Wow! That baby is small, heavy and from the price, must be made of gold!

I think that's why there were few HiLo's with them.

Default 17T with generator

Hi new to forum. I just purchased a 2009 17T. It would appear the individual who bought this unit originally had just about all options installed.

I dont know what is standard, what are options

1. Alloy wheels with Good year tires.
2. Amana range with Oven
3. Duo-Therm Penguin with heat strip.
4. 3 way Fridge with wood grain front panel
5. Electric Lift Tounge Jack
6. Tv antenna with power unit
7. 2way Water heater
8. Outside shower
9. Chrome Spare tire cover.
10. 7.5w Solar batt tender with Roof Panel
11. Power Roof Vent
12. 2500 KW Cummings Onan LP generator (1 hr)
13. 30lb propane tanks with Automatic valve
14. Upper Bunk
15. Reese wt dist Spring Hitch
16. 12' awning

Love this camper! I pull it with a 2004 Town Car and I pulls wonderful..
I did have to get the car set up with Electric Brakes, but is sure is nice having them.
It pulls as well as the pop-up camper I traded in on it.

I will take a pic of the generator and post it..

Mark

Welcome to the forum. Take a look at the brochure and you can see what was standard and what was an option.

Default Thanks for the welcome

Sorry for the late reply.
BEEN CAMPIN!!
This little 17t has everything except the Stereo.
I am suprised with the insulation. We were in low 30 degree weather and it was a very comfortable 70 inside without using the Heat Strip...we just used a small space heater.

Thanks for creating this forum.
It is nice to have such a wealth of knowledge about my camper here.
Thanks for the Brochure.
I plan to go over the sealant.

I purchased self leveling for the top and a tube of non leveling for the sides of the caps.
There are no leaks, I am just a precautionary kind of person.
What should I be looking for with the orginal calking?

Default generators

This reply may be a day late and a dollar short but this is what I know about Hi-Lo generators. Our 29 Ft. Classic had the factory installed generator. I did not want to pay for it so the dealer removed it and lowered the price of our camper 1500 dollars. That was in 2003. It was under the floor behind the skirting that the Classic models came with.
