Default freezer door repair

What is the easiest way to replace the freezer door spring housing pcs. I have the new lh and rh pcs. The freezer door does not spring close anymore. How does the door get removed to get the new pcs in place?

I'm not sure how much it costs to replace that door.
I broke my freezer door and went to Walmart and got a double sliding spring loaded bar to keep the door shut. You can call/email Dometic, if that is what you have and ask for a parts list to be sent to you.

I saw either here or on the RV.net Forum somebody saying how to do the job. Do a search on both, maybe you will get lucky.

Les; I have replaced the springs on my freezer door, but don't remember the procedure. It was not hard once I figured it out. If I remember correctly you use a thin screwdriver, slip it between the door and that spring housing and push the spring housing inward or outward and pull the door corner toward you. If you don't need to get the spring replaced this week, when I get back home on Friday I need to pull my HiLo out of the shed and I will figure this out and let you know.

Thanks for the link, the last camping trip I had to duct tape the door closed to make it home with frozen fish from alaska that we got from family.

Default Replacing Freezer door springs

I know this is an old post. Thanks Garyk52 for posting the You Tube link on this repair. Just need to send DH over to the HiLo to disassemble so I can order parts.

Default More info. Replacing freezer door assembly

Frustrating finding parts on the internet. Ordered from PPL in Texas. What broke on both sides is the plastic right hand and left hand assembly. In other words the inner spring can be reused. Dh will install with some silicone grease.

Guess I got lucky. When going through the manuals I received with the Hi Lo, I remembered that freezer door not working correctly. There it was! The "how to fix the freezer door" section in the manual. I'm saving the video in case it happens again. Thanks. If I remember correctly, I used a flat screwdriver and a thin, narrow putty knife.

Default Pictures of freezer door repair parts

This is what I had to order from ppl motorhome in Texas. You insert the old spring into the new assembly. Whom ever packaged the parts sent us two left hand housings. PPL is reshipping. Hopefully we will get a right hand assembly. Good thing we aren't going out camping right away.
