My refrigerator keeps trying to switch to gas when on shore power and will not stay on AC. Any ideas ?

Did you check the AC circuit breakers? Maybe the one for the refrigerator tripped.

Yeah I did. That's what I thought as well.

I tried plugging it into another outlet as well and it still will not work. Now it will not work on AC at all and the gas will only work for a few minuets then it goes to the check light.

Google your ref. model #. Perhaps the information will give you a trouble shooting guide.

the gas mode needs electricity to work- I'm not sure why, but it sounds like you may have an issue with the refrigerator circuitry rather than external circuits. Go to the search function on this site for refrigerators. There are many posts over the years and you might find something in there that will give you a clue. Good hunting.

True, but it needs DC, not AC. As I understand the issue, the refrigerator is not working on AC.

Are the AC electrical outlets in the trailer "hot"?

I got that. But, seeing as he said it was "switching" to gas (not sure how that was happening.....) then it seemed to me that whatever circuit board or whatever aids in switching things once you turn the dial( or not) , that the problem was in the circuitry. However, admittedly, I know nothing else about how they work so I should probably butt out here......I just thought the
"trying to switch to gas while on AC" was was indicative of something mildly complicated.

Ok so I thought oh well I've got 2 30lb. tanks I'll just run it on gas. Well that didn't work either. I pressed the auto button off so it would just run on gas and it lit fine and ran for 30 minutes or so and the check light came on. It usually only comes on when there is no gas present. I turned everything off including the breaker and back on. I hit the button and it clicked about twice and lit. About 30 minuets later the same thing happens again. This time I pushed the auto button and the AC light comes on and it would run on AC for 30 minutes and try to go to gas. It would then run on gas then AC and so on. I'm stumped.

Are you low on propane? Call Jay in parts at Mantelli trailer sales. 1-716-625-8877. Steve is the service manager. Either one may be able to give you some advice.

No filled them up before I left and we used the stove and oven with no problems.

The link that Rick posted has good troubleshooting tips. Have you followed them?

Yep I've worked on this thing all week and I've basically done everything on that list. I think the board is shot. Ive got power and gas so I think thats all it could be.

I dont normally share trade secrets but...
I dont know what the board looks like or how accessible it is. If accessible get something to turn on and put a heat gun on the IC's. Not too much heat but close to 150F on the surface. If the device that was on goes off quickly that is a pretty good indication of a chip on the board that is right on the edge of working.

I build and repair thremal reactor controllers and my best friend is a $5 pocket torch. I go to it before the $5K 4 channel color scope.

You may have a control board problem. Was there cooling happening when in those modes? And, could you feel heat coming from the outside vent when in both modes? Was it working in the 12 volt mode?

I never tried DC mode. I took the cover off and when it would run on gas I could feel heat while it was running. Everything kept cool so I think when it was on AC it was working it just kept switching back and forth from AC to GAS. I felt more heat when it was on GAS but I guess thats to be expected.

If you have the manual look in the troubleshooting section to see if the problem is covered. If you don't have a manual go the company website and track one down. I feel that it is a control board problem. They can be replaced.
