Default Alaska

Took our 28C to Alaska last summer (2009) for 9 1/2 weeks. Trip of a life time, will do it again next year or 2012. No problems. Tow with a chevy diesel, got 16 1/2 mpg average for the 14300 mile trip. Anyone wanting info on the trip can contact me here or email loghm@aol.com. JIM L

We took the trip in 2005, they are continually improving the highway. The Alaska highway starts at Dawsons Creek, Canada. I missed getting a pic of the starting sign, couldn't stop was traffic behind. It is 1,422 miles long, the first 400 are very nice, then things change, when you see a dip sign, the actual dip is about a half mile away, hard to get accustomed to. 1st one remove the micro wave from the top of the fridge, as after some rough road and about a 1/4 mile from the sign I went back to speed, then I hit the dip.
While in Canada we stayed in a camp ground every 3 or 4 days, to dump and get hot showers. The other nights we stayed in pull overs along the highway. The next gas station is sometime about a 100 miles away, just keep that in mind.
Here are some pics. First 3 pics are of construction on the highway. Very messy if wet. 4th pic is the high way end. Last pic is the Alaska Pipe line out side of Fair banks a must see, also the museum.

More pics. The 1st pic is the office at a campground next to the Fairbanks, fair ground, note the short door, typical of older buildings. pic 2 is the park a must see. pic 3 is a road side pull over in AK. Pic 4 is in Valdez going to the end of the pipe line it was under construction and we camped in the camp ground that runs along it, so that I could easily go salmon fishing. Last one is in Skaguay, a must see.
Ask questions as I don't know what you would like to know, will answer if i can. My answers will be 7 years old from your trip. Gas was more expensive in Canada, Alaska was the same as the lower 48, so was propane. Food was expensive in Valdez. If you go there, must stop at the Bad *** Coffey shop, also the boat cruse is great, just be sure to dress warm, some dummies went in tee shirts. it's an all day trip, to a glacier and ice is cold.

I use Firefox explorer and all I have to do is go to view at top and click on zoom. I have a 22" screen and it is very readable.

Also works the same as IE

Default Alaska Postisting information help

Thanks Pop Richie,my daughter understood your directions. I haven't taken the time to take some computer classes. I'm having too much fun doing the fix it repairs around the house. Our Br.plumbing leaks aND REPAIR GOT COMPLETED. Got to get psyched up to repair some thin cords in our Anderson windows that broke. Then onto two rooms that needed repainted. Then the weather should be good to do our HiLo detailing and repairs. Also time to till up and plant a fairly large garden. Then relax and go camping!!!

Sam, I appreciate the notes from your 2004 Alaska trip. We are leaving for a trip to Alaska at the end of this month from our home in Central Oregon. We plan to be gone two to three months.

Default 2011 Trip to Alaska

I have never been to Alaska. The write up came from members of our HiLove NY camping club. Wish we could have gas at $2.19 when they made the trip. Anyway have a great trip. Take lots of pictures.

Default Making the trip South in July

Just stumbled upon this thread and thought I would mention that I am moving from Anchorage, AK to New Mexico, leaving around the 15th of July. I will try to make a conscious effort to keep some sort of log to let you all know how the trip is/was. I will be towing my new-to-me Towlite with a Nissan Pathfinder.

90 miles away from me! Plenty of places to camp although the lack of rain has closed down a lot of the national forests.
