Default Lake Superior circle tour

Looking to do the lake superior circle tour. Any suggestion on were to camp? We are familiar with the north shore of MN, but past Thunder bay we could use some info.

Have not done it for awhile but many many years ago we used to kayak different stretches every summer and car camp before putting in and taking out. GEt a map and just start looking for the campground symbols. Rossport has places, TErrance BAy, and others. Once you start coming down the "east "side- Lake Superior Provincial park and a couple others between WAWA and the Sault are beautiful. That said- Ontario packs them in a little tighter than many in the us but in a hi-lo you should be fine. On the NW side- you may want to check out a run up to Lake Nipigon- a very wild and interesting place and the road up is a hidden jewl with exposed shield and all. I cant think of anywhere "bad" up there. Take your time and enjoy it.

dkoz,
Did you ever go on the trip or are you looking at this summer 2016? I only know of a few per se on the lower edge in the UP of Michigan. Personal experience, but know of people who have driven it all around, one friend I doubt camped as she traveled with her senior mom. But would love to do this someday, have fun good luck and savor the sights!

We are leaving in mid -July. Going east from MN and our only plan is to spend our first night around Bayfield.

Washburn ( just south of Bayfield) has two Cgs, a city and county one. Otherwise, dalrymples in Bay field or Redcliff reservation in Redcliff ( just a bit nwof bayfield).

We stayed at Apostle Islands Campground in Bayfield last summer. It's a nice campground but a little hilly. Surprisingly, there are not very many camping options in that area.

Another option is Big Bay State Park on Madeline Island. We took the ferry to the island, drove to the park and walked through this campground. It's very nice and of course, popular. No spots were available when we were there.

Hope this helps.
