Snow

More snow!

We are in the midst of a winter storm. Just went out and measured the snow on the ground and we are at 8" with a little more on the way today. Needless to say, we won't be camping anytime soon! :( These photos were taken yesterday with about 6" of snow. You can see the Hi-Lo tucked away for the winter.

Greg, honestly it is just beautiful. Now, from someone snowbirding in south Florida, get that snowblower out and get to work!

snow

Keep the top of the HiLo brushed off. We only had snow once this year so far. Next week we are due for some. I hear the snow in California is a good thing for your water shortage.

That is just the way I like to see snow....in a picture!:D

Nice, Greg. I've had at least 17" here in Pine with the last storm. My rain gauge had 3" of water in it, so it's likely that I had even more than 17". This has been an incredibly snowy winter so far. There's a bit more forecast in the next couple of days, and I see some coming in from the south as I write this.

I don't have a snow blower either - just a flat bladed shovel. Usually, it's enough.

I took some pictures too, and I'll try to add them here in the next day or so.

snow

My dd works at Home Depot. Sales have been a little slow for snowblowers. Each burst of snow sends many shopers in for snow shovels and ice melt ect. Our 4x4 F250 is in excellent mechanical condition and ready for what ever mother nature dishes out.

Its missed us most of this Winter and I'm good with that. But, today the cold finally showed up and we are at 7 deg. Im NOT good with that!

My Snowstorm

Well, this took longer than I expected. For some reason, nothing would upload from my desktop - and I tried several times. But, everything works fine from my laptop. Maybe my desktop firewall has gotten too energetic?

Anyway, I think you can see I got a major snowfall here in Pine. I measured 17" and the locals are still talking about it.

My hummingbird feeder was totally clobbered. I have year-round resident hummingbirds, so I leave the feeder up all the time. One came after it had melted a bit and was drinking from the frozen drips. Thankfully, his tongue didn't get stuck to it.

The second picture is just the trees and bushes out my kitchen window. It was a pretty even blanket.

In the third, you can see the depth relative to the picnic table on my deck. The snow pretty much came straight down, due to very little wind.

Finally, I'm glad I have an RV carport up beside my garage. A little snow collected on the front of the trailer, but it was mostly protected. The snow still has not fully melted off the roofs of the carport and garage.

So, living in Arizona is not always a "dry heat" experience!

Here in NW PA next to the snow belt we have had only 8" so far this month. Mother nature has been kind to us. That's okay by me. Enjoy!

Pretty, though! To tell you the truth- as long as we have to suffer through the cold back here in the upper midwest I would prefer some decent snow to CCski/snowshoe in! Ours is just UGLY. now. The sparrows and Cardinals are hanging tough, though,as usual. And I wish I had your carport- but the place where i store mine built a pole shed and i went ahead and forked over the money to put it inside for three months.....heated, too! As it will be -25 windchill here in the morning I'm glad for that!

Jack, it looks like your garage is blocked by the snow. Guess you had to get the snow shovel out in order to get the truck out of the garage. You took some great pictures--they look like a Christmas card! Your pictures really surprised me because I didn't think it snowed in Arizona. What is your altitude?

It's cold hear in Summerville, SC (about 30ish), but no snow in years. Getting ready to head to Florida for a few weeks (when the house sitter arrives), and now I am digging out some shorts and tee shirts; hope they fit after all that rich Christmas food! (LOL)

Thanks, everyone! I'm pretty sure this amount of snow is fairly unusual, at least I hope so.

Dee, my house is at 5700 feet, along the eastern side of Pine Canyon which extends north into the Mogollon Rim (a sudden rise in the terrain that runs for about 200 miles west-east in Arizona marking the southern edge of the Colorado Plateau). The elevation up on the Rim starts out at about 7000 feet and generally varies up to 8000 feet.

I didn't try to get out of my garage for two days, but then was able to do it in my truck OK. It has 4WD, which I would not be without living up here.

We DO have snow in Arizona in the high country. The Santa Catalina mountains north of Tuscon has a ski area that is generally open for business in the winter. And, we traveled east to Pinetop for Christmas which is just under 7000 feet. About 25 miles east of there, is Sunrise, a BIG ski area with runs starting from one peak at about 10,800 ft and another that is 11,100 feet high. There was about 2 feet of dry powder in the Sunrise area this year.

Hi Dee; Did you and Beach make it to FL yet? Sure wish we could have made it to FL this winter. After going to the Keys for 9 years we are going to miss it. That bad leg took a turn for the worst this past year and the infection in it blew up in July. I just had surgery on it to remove the infected bone and tissure so will spend the rest of the winter in house. They took out 8" of the bone in the femur. Will be on antibiotic pumps for the next 6 weeks pumping in two antibiotics. If they are able to kill all of the infection then they will put in a knee joint. Will be nice to have a knee joint and be able to bend the leg after 43 years without one. It could be 6 to 10 months before getting the joint tho. I have a good nurse in Faye and we know now she can run a snow blower and keep the outdoor furnace fired up. We do hope to make it to the Rally in TX and hope to see you there.

Get well prayers

Sorry to hear about your surgery/infection. Prayers for both of you. One time I came home from the hospital with a pic line for hyperalimentation and antibiotics. My DH is facing two eye surgeries. For cornea transplants and cataract lenses. Hopefully he will be done with all of this come June. Then it is my turn for knee replacement for severe arthritis. I'm having so much fun now!! I can't wait to get old. Keep us posted.

When it's in the mid 50's here I'm complaining about the cold and stay inside for the most part and come summer, when it is near triple digits I will be complaining about the heat. One of the good things about being old is you can complain all the time and it is more or less acceptable.:D
