All of our meters work with DirecTV systems. Some (specified in the description) also work with Dish Network. Both the dish and the meter need power to operate. All meters will work when connected in-line between the satellite receiver and the satellite dish because the receiver provides the power. Some meters (specified in the description) have their own power supply (plug-in or battery) that provides the power. In this case, no receiver is required to align the dish.
Only experienced installers should try to align a dish without a receiver. This feature is more often used when performing a "site survey"; Walking around carrying a dish and meter to different locations on a property to see where a signal can be received.
