Has anybody removed the upholstered end caps? Are they screwed in or what?

Are you referring to the cap over the window?
There are screws hidden in the flaps of the fabric.

I assume you are talking about end caps on the upper cabinets. I just finished removing these end caps in my 2004 and recovering them to change the color. They are screwed in. Pretty simple to remove and reinstall.
