This is my fave when there is a crowd. Works well for picky eaters and those that eat at different times.
You will need a box of freezer zip lock bags. 1 quart size. THEY HAVE TO BE FREEZER BAGS!
Set up a buffet style table with any ingredient you can think of for an omlett.
We usually prepare our ingredients ahead of time in plastic bowls with lids or ziplock bags.
crack 2 eggs into a freezer bag and add any ingredient you like to it. squish it up to mix. Try to remove most of the air and zip it up. Use a permanant marker to write your name on it.
Drop into boiling water for 17 minutes. The most perfect omlett will form in the bag. Just dump it out on a plate and wala!
We have a burner with a pot of water boiling at the end of the table and a kitchen timer. You can boil about 6 bags in a regular soup pot. The larger the pan the more you can cook. We usually have a person manning the pan, timer and removing the bags with tongs.
People love doing this and are amazed at how they turn out.
You can add side dishes to the table if you like, but the omlett is usually enough.
Of course there will be a big eater that will ad more than 2 eggs, you have to cook those a little longer.
And if you use an ingredient that has alot of moisture, like tomatoes, you may have to cook a little longer.
If you cook extras they heat well in the microwave. Store them in the frig in the bag and then throw it in the microwave to heat. We usually will cook up the left over ingredients and eggs for the late arivers, a snack later, or breakfast the next morning.
