Default New member intro and trading up

Hello My name is Tony and my wife's name is Nancy. We have owned our Hilo 22T for about 5 years now. We used it a lot for the first three years out of Los Angeles then we moved to Hawaii. We keep it as our home away from home now but are planning on taking extended trips soon. I was looking at trading up to a 27 footer but while looking at the adds I noticed that the prices of the 27' was not much higher then the 22'. Is there something especially desirable about the smaller trailer.

Depends on if the seller is a dealer or a private party. Sometimes your tow vehicle dictates the size HiLo you can safely tow. Welcome to the forum.

Looking at the RV industry as a whole, smaller trailers are generally more desirable. I have seen 17 & 19 disappear a lot faster than the others when advertised. Also, what Sam says is valid as it can simply depend on how quickly an owner/dealer wants to move it or in the case of the dealers, how much profit they made off of selling to the person that traded in the Hi-Lo.

It also depends on what type of camping you will do. Long term you might want a longer one. We stay with the 25footer because we have three adults and camp in alot of state parks. Some might want a smaller unit for boondocking.

Not only size, but weight and whether the current tow vehicle can tow the Hi-Lo being considered which makes the smaller units more popular.

We have 3 adults (our adult son with DS adds that 3rd adult) and 2 larger dogs and find the 2310 doable for longer term, going on about 5 weeks and counting.

I guess what we have seen over the years is that people don't realize that if they are looking for storage space, a bigger trailer of any manufacturer won't assure that. For us, the swing-down bunk made this unit much preferred over the others. The next size up with the tip-out would not have been suitable. Can't do a lot with floor space.

To me, there is RVing and there is camping. We are campers so go smaller because we prefer to be outside when possible. Those that prefer to stay inside often seek larger spaces for their inside "toys".
