I am going to get to the bottom of this TODAY. A nice man from Martzen Chevrolet is stopping by today to see if the 2-5/16" ball will fit. The 2" goes in fine but rolls around. If it doesnt I am back to the 2".

Going back to Step One to see if the 2-5/16 hitch ball will fit. Will find out later today.

Very interesting thread. I am actually dealing with this right now. I have a 2001 24' Hi-Lo Towlite and many forum folks are saying it takes a 2-5/16" ball but it doesnt fit. I had to take it back. The 2" fits. The ball has a bit of wiggle room but I have no other choices but the 2".

Couple things: the hitch ball is in my hand and I am trying to push it up into the space. It is not at this point attached to anything. I am just trying to see if it will fit. It is clearly too large for the space. There is no way a 2-5/16 will fit. Not even close. Unless it opens wider somehow...

And I looked for the stamping. There is a hole where the stamping is and I just cant see anything relevant to ball measurement. Plus its 20 years old.

Yes. My 2001 Towlite apparently is as well. The 2-5/16 suggested measurement totally threw me off. Hopefully this will be documented to help someone. There should be an easier way to determine size. Having to buy parts and run back and forth is a hassle. But I am definitely learning new stuff so...

Oh that explains it. Martzen Chevrolet said to get a 1" shank . I like the 2-5/16 ball but it just doesnt fit. Its quite a bit bigger than the 2". Will the 1" shank be long enough?
