    Time for new AC

Its all about watts. A 2000 watt HONDA generator is good for around 1600 watts constant (I think). My buddy bought a window unit that pulls ~1100 watts which works out to around 10 amps. The HONDA will do 13.5 amps constant so he has no problems on his little home made camper. One must keep...

What did you do to your HiLo Today?

I rebuilt my Mansfield toilet flush valve today because, well, I am tight like that. LOL NOT for the faint hearted. I "should have" taken a LOT more pictures of it as I disassembled it but eventually I figured it out. Actually, I should have replaced it with the above mentioned unit but I am...

Need 2nd opinion on buying a vintage Hi Lo

1968 15 years stored behind barn In wet Missouri Dont spend a nickle until you look at it. I was just in MO for vacation and saw my cousins 2000 Play Mor that was destroyed by water leaks. Such a shame but all he could do was scrap it. IMO $500 is pricey for such an old unit stored so long...

help hi lo will not go down

If empty it will not raise and will make nasty grinding noises like a cars power steering pump low on fluid when raising. Lowering the top should refill the tank SOME and if too full it will not go down fully as it will hydrolock. Rick

    Remodeling Underway!

I have an 81 model and can tell you this from experience. The putty tape has dried out and is past its service life. Remove every trim piece on the outside and reseal them. I personally used sillicone but most use the putty tape rolls from rv stores or hardware stores. There are 2 types of...

    A/C removal

I seem to recall a high density black foam seal with sticky on the roof side (double sided tape). Don't use the 1 side sticky foam used to seal a camper to pickup bed. It will leak through. I just did a Google search and those OEM seals are avialable online and should be at your local rv store...

    A/C removal

It has been close to 40 years since I removed an AC unit but the 4 bolts is all that holds them on. I don't recall the seal but you will need 2 people. Put 2 pieces of plywood, 4x4 will be fine, to prevent roof damage while up there. Cheers, Rick

Getting into the repairs Major rebuild !!!!

Correct Sam. What I always remind myself is these are trailers, not homes, and it is what it is. :( Staples, when done correctly, are very strong. In the past 6 months I have helped my son rebuild a 38' PlayMore 5th wheel where it was gutted down to the frame and done so as to be more like an...

    HI-LO for parts

Why rubber? I am working on a customers Tioga motor home with a leaking rubber roof (side job for $). It is only 16 years young. A new rubber roof would co$t at least $5000 and I must ask WHY? WHY put another rubber roof on when a metal roof can be had for about the same price and NEVER go bad...

Do I have Grey/Black water holding tanks?

My 1981 Fun Chaser has both and they have separate dump valves and Y into the same dump hose. They "should" be visible underneath. If not my guess is they broke and owner removed them. Rick

Changing the breaker in a 69 Hi lo

I=E/R Translated. The higher the voltage the lower the amperage. Put a meter on the line and let us know what the voltave is. My RV buddy was fighting a popping breaker and it ended up being a high resistance connection in his 30 to 20 amp adapter he used to plug into his shop outlet. Later...

    ac unit acting up

Try some WD-40 and let it run for several minutes. If it frees up then use heavy oil or thin grease. Hopefully you will get it freed up. The WD-40 will act like a solvent and very light lube. Rick

    Stripped Square Head Screws

That is what I did. Dremil a slot and hit the screwdriver to drive it in snug and back the screw out. I had 6 on one side on the drivers side top trim piece. In another place the heads broke off but I was able to grab the remains with a Vise Grip brand vise grip after the trim piece was removed...

    Running wires from solor panel

My '81 only has a sheet of 3/16 paneling under the aluminum top. That is more than most use and yojrs may not hae that paneling there. IMO the easiest way to access this from the inside is to see if you can get enough reach area from the seam when opened. If not you will have to use a sharp...

    mold in trailer

Greg, I always use sillicone and seal the base to the trailer. There are different ways to do this but a light in good shape will have a good seal to the base so all you should need to seal is around the light base to the trailer. I am anal when it comes to these so I seal under the base, all...

    Refrigerator auto switch problems

I dont normally share trade secrets but... I dont know what the board looks like or how accessible it is. If accessible get something to turn on and put a heat gun on the IC's. Not too much heat but close to 150F on the surface. If the device that was on goes off quickly that is a pretty good...

Major repairs to walls, windows & Beam 24' - 2002

For what its worth, over time the puddy tape will dry out, lose adhesion and shrink regardless of the fit. I just resealed all of my windows on my 1981 FC and they fit correctly BUT everyone of them had some damage, usually limited to just rust on the threads of the screws. I don't know if this...

    Serious asthma attack

I agree on its the formaldehyde in the paneling. Its worse in the heat. When I worked on park models we would open them up for about ten minutes in the summer with a fan helping to vent the unit out. A few of us got very dizzy a few times when we did not do this and we were in our prime. :o Rick
