using the hot water heater while dry camping

As Jack said, your water is 120VAC. Therefore, it will work while dry camping if it is dual propane/AC. If you can find your AC breakers, there is probably one marked "HTR" or similar. Good luck!

    1994 lowering solenoid issue fixed

Thanks for the post, Jeannie! I too have a HiLo that won't Lo. Plan is to lube all the cables and pulleys anyhow and I've added your fix to the list of things to look at. Luisa

    At home raised position

I agree that cables should be protected against corrosion. My HiLo is stuck in the UP position, likely due to that. So now it's propped up with 2x2s until I get a Round Tuit: Luisa.

    Inverter

Thanks, Jack, that's what I remember from my engineering days. I'm abit puzzled by "passes" and "transfers" but I don't have an AC wiring diagram for my Hi-Lo. Perhaps I should have dug through all the Vendor stuff and found the Converter info before mouthing off ... ;)

    Inverter

Inverter answer Dee, Any electronic assembly has a property called "mean time between failures" (MTBF). This number is for a fixed set of conditions: ambient temperature, humidity and stuff. The number is useless for us mortals and the inverter manufacturer won't disclose it anyway...

Easy way to locate roof beams?

What Richard said. Also, an electric cable locator system might work. One attaches a signal generator to one end of the wire which then radiates a signal which can be located by a detector. Can be found on ebay ... ... there's also the tapping-with-something-and-listening method which might...

    1703T fixed a heating problem

Problem was that the heater accessory in the A/C unit developed a ground fault which was tripping the A/C itself, not good here in Gulf Coast Texas. :( Not liking fans in the camper anyway, I searched eBay and found a small wall-mounted convection heater about the same wattage. About the only...

leaking black tank- the thing I never wanted to fix

Just completed a blackwater tank repair. I used a kit from Plasti-Mend: Plasti-Mend Black Comes with MEK*** primer and applicator, two sheets of gauze, two brushes, a can of resin and even two small sheets of ABS. It worked very well and didn't cost much at all (38-something bucks, IIRC) . . ...

Just wondering what tools and such to carry

Hello, Haven't been at it long but have already found the following invaluable: A scissor jack to be able to raise the trailer front when connecting/disconnecting to/from the Jeep so as to get the stupid pad thingy in and out of the actual trailer hitch jacking post. A mega-ton hydraulic...

    Fixed an A/C problem (1703T)

On our last trip, the A/C cycled on and off (as it should) for half a day and then it stayed on permanently and we woke up freezing. Turning the thermostat knob though it's range produced healthy-sounding clicks as the switch inside did it's thing but the A/C kept right on cooling. :( With no...

    HiLo's do tow easier

Thanks for the further info which is both of great interest and food for thought, especially as to loading of the tow hitch and the effects of braking/acceleration. Points perhaps to advice about not towing with the camper top up . . . Ted

    HiLo's do tow easier

Thanks for the advice. For the 1703T with my diesel Jeep Liberty, the only instability so far has been pilot-induced. :) What are the mechanics of such an event? As a retired Engineering Consultant I would be interested in knowing. Thanks, Ted

1703T anybody removed the black water tank?

Got the slide valve removed. Was hoping to remove the elbow than joins to the tank by completing the parting of the sealing material but no - it looks like I'll have to drop the tank after all. Such fun . . . . turns out I posted in the wrong forum, as noobs do After reading the thread...

New to Hi-Lo - having trouble

Plus, when the top is resting on the safety bar for some reason, the seals around the lower part of the top are not fully touching the body on my old 17T. Ted

1703T anybody removed the black water tank?

Thanks all for info on the slide valve. Unfortunately, the leak is definitely at the joint where the 4" drain enters the tank. Pull down on the slide valve a bit and I can see a gap opening and closing and the drip is from there. A removal difficulty I foresee is that the drains are all...

    HiLo's do tow easier

Yes, my 17T tows well whenever I remember to lower the top. ;) Wife wants a bigger one but we tow with a diesel Jeep Liberty and I am reluctant to go any bigger . . . Ted

1703T anybody removed the black water tank?

I need to drop the tank because the drain connection is dripping. Looking underneath, I see a couple of straps and the electrical connections for the level sensor. Is it that simple? Is there anything else I should know/do? Ted aka Luisa48

    1703T: replacing the water pump

Thanks, Jack & Bob. The mouse pad suggestion is interesting. It's quite a pain in those cramped quarters to gain access to the said pump, so please forgive me if I don't do that right away. The new pump is pretty quiet - I think it's a different type than the original - 4 chamber instead of...

    1703T: replacing the water pump

Hi All, Mr Clever (me) took insufficient precautions during a rare hard freeze here near Houston. On trying out the water system, the previously very noisy water pump was suspiciously quiet and the flow out of the taps exceedingly slow. Grump! A bit of googling found a similar model - a...

Some fun with 1703T stabilizer jacks

Though I'd share this little saga with y'all: In a hurry to leave site, while loading the poop hose into the back, I temporarily placed the jack crank on the spare tire, duh. Arriving back at the house, said crank showed up missing - as we say in Texas. "No problem", I go to Wifey, "I'll just...

Please identify this 1703T mystery switch

Excellent. I just went out there and, in the dead of night, I set the mystery switch to ON (the gas was already on) and, lo, a noise came from the forward port side under the bed. Don't know whether it's functioning because I didn't wait - but at least I know now what the switch is! I do like...

Please identify this 1703T mystery switch

When we bought the camper, the Seller pointed at it and mumbled something but I've long forgotten what he said, duh, and male pride prevents me from asking after a few months have passed. Here it be, right next to the furnace thermostat: It has no effect on the furnace operation or...

    Hi Lo 1703T 2003

Thanks to All for your help . . . . now that we know which heater Luisa was talking about . . . . and thanks for info about the efficacy of the 'heating strip' up there in the roof A/C. Since we camp mainly at sites with available 120VAC, we've also decided that a small electrical heater is...
