    Build your own hi lo

I cantilevered 6 inches past the 4 foot width and 2 feet longer, most building supply trailers are 4-500 lbs so take that into concideration on your build. I designed my frame from the axle up in a boat trailer configuration to save weight.

    Build your own hi lo

There is an article at Do It Yourself RV by Christine Nellerman (foam trailer builds)that outlines my project, the struts you see are linear actuators purchased from Progressive Automations, that move 30 inches, the trailer weighs in at 1200 lbs, I tow with a PriusV and still get 25 ish mpg.

    Need hydraulic cylinder

BurdenSales.com sells hydraulic and electrical oddities in case you would rather attempt to replace one. My homemade uses electric linear actuators because they work and aren't messy.

    NC Trip in Foamy 2

Traveled to NC this week for first long distance "shake down" trip before summer travels, 65 mph on I 95 delivers 28 mpg, 500 miles each way, was an easy tow behind Prius.

Bent Hydraulic Ram and snapped off cable connectors

I've left lights on counter but I'm using linear actuator, Burden Sales usually has a great selection of hydralic equipment but Progressive Automation may allow you to switch over to Linear Actuators, they have many different types and with a 12 volt electrical system an Acme Screw may be easier...

Finally got Wifey out in Camper

Merci', Spent day making a fairing over the front to deflect air coming over Prius V, It sort of looks like an inverted boat.....Sounds like a paint scheme. Glad you like the DIY concept.

Finally got Wifey out in Camper

Looking to go to Fayetteville area next month to visit sick friend, will be nice to have little sleeper to use and save on motel. Friend calls it my "Boxcar" but it's far better than any train accomodations.

Finally got Wifey out in Camper

Adobe isn't gaining access to my equipment again. Guess you can appreciate my 90 degree out photos, I've been told I'm a tad slanted anyway...OBTW towing MPG was 30.4 with the Prius V, I've been getting around 46 MPG combined lately so not a terrible hit on the wallet.

    Howdy

Blue Spring, there is only one spring, was Orange Cities chief building inspector, bottle washer, boot licker, etc. for three years, haven't camped there hard to get a space due to all the manatee watchers. Need to find a few nights here and there to work the bugs out of the system. Was...

    Howdy

Hello Neighbor, we are on the other FL coast, enjoying our homebuilt Hi-Lo, with a dry galley and a bucket. We are real new to this as we had our first outing at Rainbow Springs this week.

    Hello Hi/Lo folks

Thank you, I noticed that a company in PA are making a new Hi-Lo. Our towling mileage for our little jaunt this week was 30.4 MPG and the overall MPG was 30.7, the sightseeing MPG averaged out to 42.6 with the Foamy in the campground.

    Hello Hi/Lo folks

We just got back from the shakedown campout to give wifey a chance to try out her new upper bunk bed and 32x30 galley. We share the cooking, though, she chops and I saute.

    Hello Hi/Lo folks

Linear Actuators Thanks all for the kind remarks, My build started on a 900 lb Dexter torsional axle, using 2x2x3/8 angle salvaged from jobsite dumpster, the frame resembles a boat trailer frame, the floor is (R7.5) 1.5" extruded foam (Owens Corning) between 2x3's on the flats with a 5mm...

    Hello Hi/Lo folks

No windows, wifey and I like sleeping in a cave, the actuators are like tent poles that are bolted through the floor and the ceiling they are 30 inch rise so a 80 inch head room is possible. I have painted vignette's of places we have visited. Watching Bob Ross at gym is paying off.

    Build your own hi lo

I'm not building them but I built my own over the last year. I know that finding one will be tough and what you find will need to be completely renovated. I'm willing to share my ideas, all it takes is a willingness to get your hands dirty. We are planning to hit the road this summer, my...

    Hello Hi/Lo folks

I was hoping to let y'all think out if the box. Apparently your elavator system is hydraulic or cables which seems prone for malfunction. My system is Linear Actuators, which are pretty simple, perhaps a possible modification to repair the issues of raising the roof.

    Hello Hi/Lo folks

I think the concept of short/ tall is grand, the missus and I are kinda Mutt and Jeff too. Wanted a "camper" when I retired but had to bailout early and being cheap decided to build my own, teardrop but hated the thought of 'walking on my bed' every time I got into it so I built a 850 pound...
