1987 FunChaser 22L

Hello All,
Christine and I have been married three years now, the kids are grown and it's time to chase our dreams. We're an older couple who prefers traveling back roads instead of interstates, camping at small lakes rather than large resorts. Our '87 FunChaser that we picked up at our neighbor's garage sale is the ideal way for us to go. The neighbors were the original purchasers and traveled across the U.S. in it. They purchased a newer motorhome, and let the HiLo sit for five years. All it needed was new tires, a little work on the brakes, plumbing and electrical and it's ready to roll. We're excited about new adventures and our dream is to take it across the country as the previous owners had. This forum has already provided a ton of useful information on maintaining our trailer and traveling in a HiLo. Thanks to all for sharing your knowledge and experience. Looking forward to meeting other owners and swapping stories as we travel our road to happy destiny.

Welcome to the forum. This is one of the best forums on the 'net. Great people and good info! Brenda and I would recommend two short three day week-end trips to iron out all the little things that might get in the way on a long, cross-country trip. It helps when you can set things up in a hurry and the water, heater, furnace and fridge all work the way you expect. Keep us up on your progress.

Thank you both, we have a few Spring weekends at the lake planned, and extending our radius throughout the Midwest as we get more comfortable with our rig. We'll get the final tuning on the hitch and weight distribution set up along with the other systems before we head out long distance. I'm interested to figure out what mileage I'll get out of the old Ford. The farthest destination we are headed late this Summer is to RMNP, about 1,200 mile round trip. My wife and I aren't seasoned road warriors, but closer to experienced veterans, so I'll quote her: "this is fun". See you down the road.

From California, welcome to the forum. Wife and I had a 21ft Tow Lite which we used for a 9000+ miles trip to Alaska and Canada and two years ago we purchased a 27 ft Tow Lite which, last year was taken 8700 miles across the mid west and eastern states. Looks Great! I've always thought that the older Hi Lo Campers looked more modern than their time. I had a 84 model Leisure Craft that was pretty much the same colors but you knew it was old camper just by looking at the outside design. These on the other hand could pass for much newer campers for those that are not familiar with the Hi Los.

Just wanted to welcome you to the forum. Looks like you got yourself a nice used unit. We have a 97 Ford F250 that we pull our 25footer with. Your truck will be fine with lots of maintenance. If you take care of it it will take care of you.

DW and I just returned from a 30 day trip up to Banff, Alberta, Canada, then back into Idaho and on to the coast of Oregon, driving down Highway 101 as far as Geyserville, California. We had about 200 miles of strong head winds across Idaho and into Oregon, but still managed to average 11.5 mpg, and unfortunately I still try to keep up with the flow of traffic. And a side note for those that might like to camp in Oregon...the first weekend of June all of the Oregon State Parks have free camping so if you don't have reservations you are SOL that weekend.
