ML350 Bluetec mileage

Without the trailer we average 30 mpg on highway, mid 20s in town. Last trip with the trailer we were getting 18 mpg at 65-70 mph for a 220 mile trip to Maine.

We got the ML350 mainly for that reason, ie good mileage with a great towing capability in a non-truck package that also looks pretty smart.

Wish American manufacturers would produce something similar, only vehicles we found that meet the specs (good mileage, good towing capability, not a truck) were all German (Mercedes, BMW, Audi, VW).

not bad for towing a Hi-Lo, I didn't know Mercedes sold these diesels here, is it the same engine that is used in the sprinter vans? the only American small suv that I saw with a diesel was a Jeep Liberty few years ago, I wasn't sure if they bought it here or abroad, I was in the auto repair business and you are right, not many diesels (beside trucks) are made by the big 3 that are marketed here.

Diesel Jeep

I towed a 2296 from FL Panhandle to AK and back in 2010 with a Diesel Liberty (2006) and averaged 17.6 mpg for the 13384 miles. The trip broke the trailer's frame, damaged the upper walls, and bent the floor (there were places on the AK Hwy where 25 mph was WAY TOO FAST!), but the Jeep did great. I sold my house right after I got back and bought a 2311. Will some day repair the old one and put it on the market.
