We took the trip in 2005, they are continually improving the highway. The Alaska highway starts at Dawsons Creek, Canada. I missed getting a pic of the starting sign, couldn't stop was traffic behind. It is 1,422 miles long, the first 400 are very nice, then things change, when you see a dip sign, the actual dip is about a half mile away, hard to get accustomed to. 1st one remove the micro wave from the top of the fridge, as after some rough road and about a 1/4 mile from the sign I went back to speed, then I hit the dip.
While in Canada we stayed in a camp ground every 3 or 4 days, to dump and get hot showers. The other nights we stayed in pull overs along the highway. The next gas station is sometime about a 100 miles away, just keep that in mind.
Here are some pics. First 3 pics are of construction on the highway. Very messy if wet. 4th pic is the high way end. Last pic is the Alaska Pipe line out side of Fair banks a must see, also the museum.
