Battery tray/Hydraulic pump box spreading - any ideas?

The battery tray/hydraulic pump box on my '94 Funlite is "spreading" from side to side; the cover won't sit down on the box, and now all the electrical connections are just left exposed to the world and all its elements.

Anyone have any ideas on how to combat this? I was thinking of just installing 2 pieces of all-thread and wing-nut them from both sides, just to firm up the sidewalls of the tray. Would look somewhat tacky, but it would allow the lid to loosely seal and keep out the rain.

Thoughts? Ideas? Solutions?

I'm not familiar with the "all-thread" you talk about. But is it similar to maybe a steel strip that you could locate along both sides of the "expanding" part, then have rods, threaded at both ends that go through holes in the strips along the perpendicular sides, which have the nuts on them to pull the steel strips tight? Sorry, I'm trying to visualize a cure and putting into words is not an easy task.

Something like this seems like it would certainly do the trick.

"All thread" is threaded rod that you find at the hardware store in the bin with all the other pieces like rod, angle, etc.

Oh, DUH! I know what it is now. So, use the all-thread with the steel strips I suggested?
