Brake light Relay

I have a 1989 Hi-Lo and I lost the brake lights...

I have a 1989 Hi-Lo and I lost the brake lights and turn signals. We tested the wires and its not that. Does anyone know where I can get at Flasher Brake Relay, p/n 860504??

If it is not the wires, as you say, did you check the bulbs? Could be that the bulbs are burnt out or there is a bad connection in the bulb socket due to corrosion. Try placing a 12v auto flasher unit into the trailer plug. The 2 prongs go into the slots that are on either side of the flat place on the plug. This will cause all your outside lights to operate. If they don't, start working from there. Hope this helps.

If this is the flasher in your tow vehicle any auto parts store should have it. The flasher needs to be a heavy duty one. If you TV does not have a tow package it may be the standard one.

As far as I know, If that flasher is in the Hi-Lo it is not standard equipment, someone rewired and put it in for some reason.
You didn't say where it was located?

Full troubleshooting information

If this helps when we started troubleshooting the issue. The left hand brake a turn signal worked (facing the back of the TT) the right hand turn signal worked but no brake on right or center. If we remove the Brake light wires going over the right side and center to the front of lift light and they come on. So the problem is either the wire coming at of the left light back to the relay or the wire in the back of the left hand light unit. somewhere between trying to clean the wire's in the back of the light and moving wires around we list the turn and brake on the left side as well all wire were put back in the original location. So either it's the light or relay. any ideas at where you can get the light to fit the HiLo.

You still haven't said if the relay is on the Hi-Lo or the tow vehicle, or I missed it some where?
The bulbs are common auto bulbs. At least they are on both my trailers and a few others that I have seen. You can get them at any auto parts.

The relay is behind the left hand rear light of the hi-lo if you are looking at the back. The bulbs are all fine and have been tested.

have you checked your ground wires? sometimes they are coroded and then when power is applied, it will backfeed

Sorry,can't help, I know that neither of my trailers have a relay like that. It may have been something used in 1989 but I have no idea what for as it is not necessary. I would sooner think it was added by a previous owner. If I was there, I could figure it out, but this is no help to you. If it was installed by Hi-Lo maybe someone else knows about it. Normally a relay is added to supply more amperage than the tow vehicle can supply, but that would be put in the battery box. If it is a flasher, 2 would be needed at that point to flash left or right turn bulbs, but the flasher wires from the tow vehicle would still have to operate them. Sorry, kind of just thinking out loud, so to speak. Also I never saw a flasher in that kind of a box, not that it isn't. If it was me I would wire left and right turn bulbs directly to the trailer plug, which is the normal way they are done, as JIM L pointed out unless the tow vehicle has the factory tow package then the flasher has to be changed to a heavy duty one.

Does the trailer have the high level stop light like cars have now? If it does, the relay/device may be an isolator circuit to make it work. It would be like the circuit that allows amber turn signals on the tow vehicle to operate the standard red tail lights on the trailer. Just a guess.

Good point Rich R, I didn't think of that but it would operate from the brake lights. Does your 2310 have that light? Don't think it would have anything to do with the turn signals, unless it is one of those directional flashers
Sjma2012---Can you post a picture of the rear of the trailer.

My 2310 does not have the high level stop light but I believe at least some of the Classics had them. The isolator would have both red and right turn signals and the stop light wired into it. So which ever turn signal is on steady as a stop light would feed into the high level light and that current would be isolated via diodes away from the light that is flashing. The little gray box may be a diode circuit block and not a relay. By theory, it should have three terminals, one for each turn signal, and one for the brake light.

Issue Found

I would like to thank everybody for there imput on this issue. Yesterday evening we did more troubleshooting the first think i did was recheck all of the connection and grounds they were any issue last year that i fix while replacing all of the lights with the exception of the main and brake lights just before we sold the TT to sjma2012 . All of the connections were good. After we had tested this we decided to try a diffrent TV and you guessed it all of the lights all worked. Tried to original TV and no brake or or left turn. swapped out the TV plug same issue so the issue in the wiring ON TV somewhere.

lesson learned a away try to TV when lights are having an issue.

Once again Thank You all for the Help on this issue and on other topic's while I Own the HI-Lo.
