I did a quick search but couldn't find anything. Is there a list of things or problem areas that I should check when looking at a used, 1995-2003, Hi-Lo? Thanks

Basically, start with the visual items - cleanliness of the unit, water stains on inside walls and ceiling, etc. Push and prod with your hand on the inside walls for soft spots. A soft spot could indicate a water leak and a damaged or rotten interior wall. Then check and see if all equipment functions - refridge, a/c, stovetop, oven (if equipped), etc. Does the unit raise and lower properly, visually check the lift system for hydraulic leaks (puddle under the trailer), etc. Check the lift cables to see if they are in good shape and not frayed. Lastly, check the seal between the upper and lower body halves for tears or damage. These are just general things to check out and not a specific guideline. Good luck.

Definitly have them hook up external water and pressurize the system (including the water heater). Merely using the demand water pump from the fresh water tank may not quickly reveal a leak (insufficient pressure). The seller may not even be aware of a leak if someone else winterized it improperly.

If possible, fill the tanks to the top and check for leaks. A cracked or punctured grey or blackwater tank can be a $500 fix! Our 2004 Towlite had a crack at the top of the black water tank. The seller (a non Hi-Lo dealer) had tightened the roof vent pipe seal ring (normally loose to allow telescoping) and then lowered the top. Doing this caused the vent pipe to push its tank mount flange into the tank, causing a 270 degree crack around the flange on the top of the tank. Filling the tank to the top immediately revealed a cascade of water under the trailer. Seller didn't even realize they had wrecked the tank!

Bottom line: Don't assume the seller knows the actual condition of the trailer.

Good luck! Jim
