Coiled (Pigtail) wiring cable

Need to replace the coiled, pigtail wiring cable that runs from the battery box to the upper part of the trailer. This cable contains the 7 sheathed, electrical wires (12, 14 and 16 gauge) that operate the trailer's electrical systems. Mine is a 1986 Funchaser.

Question Where can I obtain a replacement coiled cable? It must be flexible and stretch 5 to 6 feet to allow for the trailer to raise and lower.

Question How/Where can I access the cable connection point inside the upper part of the trailer?

I didn't have much luck, so I just wired mine with trailer wiring as the color codes were the same and shrink wrapped it. I use velcro to coil the wiring up when I'm towing the trailer in the down position.

scocol, welcome to the forum! Is it possible you could repair your wiring instead of replacing it? There's not much that goes wrong with the wire itself, but of course insulation can deteriorate. What is wrong with your cable?

That's exactly what happened to my insulation, it turns to powder whenever you touch it. I had to remove some plywood inside the camper to splice into decent wiring and run a new pigtail.

I just dealt with this. The individual wire's insulation was totally rotten. I started stripping the black overall insullation back but didn't find decent wire insulation underneath. I finally stopped and taped the wires. Couldn't figure why the insulation would disolve when it was not exposed.

Just make sure you get one made for camp trailers because there is one made slightly different with a change in wiring made differently for other kinds of trailers that also uses a 7 pin arrangement. If you get the wrong one it will probably only require you to change the wiring between the trailer and the pigtail. I always leave mine with the tow vehicle end facing down in the hope that water doesn't get in when parked. I also keep a can of spray contact cleaner and use it whenever hooking up and a day ahead of time if I remember.
