Hi! We have a 93' HiLo and the door seal/weatherstripping that sits on the bottom of the top door has split and cracked over the years. The vinyl/foam does not do its job anymore. There is a gap where it meets the door and allows bugs and cold/warm air to escape. We need to replace it but have had a very hard time figuring out where to find this product and how to do it. Has anyone replaced this before? Do you know if we need to replace the metal part that the weatherstripping is attached to? I have attached photos. Any help is much appreciated!
Thank you!

Seal replacement

Here are the instructions for cable replacement. This fifteen page document explains how to break the HiLo two halves apart. As mentioned you could get the 3/4 hollow Pbulb seal with one inch stem(flat part) from J&R. Other possible sources are EPDM Pbulb seal McMaster Carr. (epm.com pbulb seal. Extrusions epm.com for P bulb seal. Cable replacement in my 1998 HiLo 24TD 3-3-2010. Others have done this repair. Do a search for back posts on this. Dh and I replaced the seal on our 1990 HiLo. It didn't come out perfect. Couldn't seperate the halves around the refrigerator. I then sewed some(snake towels) and filled with popcorn to use as draft stoppers around the ref. and at the door. On our 1996 we took it to J&R for seal replacement. The same seal material is used on the door. HiLo may not be perfectly sealed at the door due to uneven campsite. Not bad probably would use a folded up old towel. Best of luck with this repair.

Sam,

hilooverlander is asking about replacing the entry door seal. Look at his pictures.

To hilooverlander - email the address provided by Dee Tillotson. That is J&R Trailer Repair in Mt Vernon, OH that specialize in Hi Lo trailers. Jim (J) was a loooong time Hi Lo Trailer Manufacturer employee.

Hi! Thanks for your suggestions! Did you just slip it over the metal piece and foam that's already there? Or did you take off the original foam before slipping onto the lip? Once on there, did you screw it in or attach it some how?
Thanks,
Amy

Hi Everyone,

I took a 'quick pass' at this problem when I found some of the heater pipe wrapping foam that Lowes or Home Depot sells:

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-3-4-in-x-6-ft-Foam-Self-Seal-Pipe-Insulation-ORS07812/204760815

It's split down the middle, and fits over the lip. It's not perfect, but it does fill the gap pretty well, and is a quick and simple "fix" that stays in place too.

Thank you for your reply. We have tried the folded up towel in a pinch too!

Hello - yes, that's what I did. I slipped it over what was already in place. My intent was to fix it the right way at some point, but it has held up well. There is still a small gap where it should 'turn the corner' but the major problem is solved and I haven't had troubles with it.

I added a couple of pics of the temporary fix that I've got in place. You can see it's not quite perfect, but not too bad either.

To r67northern,
Thank you for the pictures! I can see how that helped the gap for sure. The corner part is where the biggest gap is so I may have to figure something out in that area still.
Thanks again,
Amy

Weather seals

Midget trailer &RV sale on the internet has what you want. I have a 1993 also and just got them from there. About $67 dollars for both top doors.

Oh that's awesome! So you are replacing seals for both top doors? I was thinking of doing that also, even though the hard door seal looks to be in better shape than the screen door. I just figured if I was replacing one, why not replace the other?
Did you order the 23 1/2 inch one?
Thanks-
Amy
