Expandables, are they worth it?

I am considering purchasing a 2510H HiLo and was wondering about how well the expandables are working. I had a 1998 HiLo 22ft years back, sold it because I didn't have a tow vehicle and place to store it, and have been wishing I never did that! I miss it sooooo much! My questions are:

Are the exandable worth the extra price and headache?
Can you access the bathroom area while stopped at rest area without moving out the expanable?

How does the bed work for sleeping? It looks like an inflatable, does it last?

We have a 2807 Classic and love it. We've traveled for up to 4 months at a time all over the US and have had little trouble with our unit. I believe the Hi-Lo design makes pulling it much more fuel efficient and less susceptible to being blown around by the wind. We hardly know its behind us. Once at camp, sets up in 15 minutes. At most campgrounds people come to watch us raise the unit and want to see inside.

I can not speak for your bed. Our main bed is a short queen with a normal mattress which we put a memory foam pad on. The second bed is a pull out sofa that converts to a narrow double. We seldom use the extra bed.

The wife and I have talked and feel the only reason we would part with the unit right now is to move up to a Class A if we decide to go full time RVing.

I agree with Mike on all the advantages of the Hi Lo with tipout. The previous owner replaced the short queen mattress with a good quality longer queen. On the sofa I made a simple removable extension and have a blow up queen Aero mattress to put on it. Makes a good bed. We travel a lot with kids grandkids and other couples. We have had another couple on this trip to Novia Scotia, They left yesterday and another family member will join us for the rest of the trip Wednesday. Yes you can get to the bathroom without tipping out the sofa. Just park on a somewhat level spot. I do not consider the tipout in any way a headache.

Are they worth it?

I think the tilt outs are worth the difference. It really opens up the interior and you don't feel so crowded. Until I read Jim & Faye's response, I was going to say that you would have to raise the tilt out before you could use the bathroom, but since we just recently acquired our 2406 T and haven't taken a road trip as yet, I must be mistaken. I would say that it would be difficult for an older person to maneuver over the tilt out in its down position, I suppose it can be done but I haven't tried it.

Regarding the bed, we have decided to use the table conversion bed while traveling. We bought an egg crate mattress to go over the cushions. We also have an air mattress and may try that on the sofa and see how that works.

Our neighbors came by and looked our trailer over and are actively looking for one like it. They loved the tilt out.

We have a classic and they are wider than other HiLo's and we have the table instead of the dinette. This may give us more room also to walk by to the toilet. We have no problem walking thru with the tipout in. We aren't young but at 70yo not too old either. I do have a bit of handicap in the left leg, no knee joint and a clean break (non union) in the femur. Still have no problem getting by the tipout.
