I wanted a Ram Ecodiesel but they are still expensive and rare used, at least the RAM can be had with the diesel in a basic trim. The GM mini diesel can only be had in the top trims right now. The difference between it and the gas is not ability to tow but the improved feul economy while towing or not. Many gas owners can't even get the EPA rating while many diesel owners beat the EPA rating. The turbo also helps with any power losses non-turbo motors suffer with altitude gains. I have a 5.7 Hemi and it gets at best 18 mpg while many Ecodiesel owners are getting 30 mpg. In my 140,000 miles with the Hemi I could have saved over $7000 with the diesel and I bet my resale would be higher now as well. I'm not interested in the GM as much because I want to be able to seat 6.
Now the RAM is on hold because the EPA has a bug in their pants for diesels lately and Fiat failed to disclose some situations where the Ecodiesel may change tunes to prevent damaging itself. Different then the VW thing but to the general public the damage is done. Maybe the new administration can help in that there is really no reason for a fine as no damage has been done. The tunes would have been approved they just didn't say pretty please ahead of time.
