Guide Block Replacement

I have two bad guide blocks (two at the front left) and have received my replacements. I was able to remove the rails easily. The screws for the guide blocks are too long to remove, so I ended up unscrewing them and cutting them off to get the old block halves out. That was all pretty easy, but now I need to screw the new guide blocks on. If I were to jack up the top of the trailer to expose the guide blocks on the inside, I could get to the screws for the front left block, but the rail just aft of that front one is behind the refrigerator. That would be a lot of jacking and I'm not sure the wiring between the two haves could go another foot.

Any ideas on the best way to go about this?

I replaced 2 blocks on my 1990 229L. With top fully raised go inside and cut out a small piece of wall panel opposite the block ...remove a patch of insullation and drill a couple of holes in the outside of camper...........remove screws and let block drop off bottom of rail. Take new block and install. Patch outside hole and replace piece of wall paneling. About a 30 minute job. With top raised the holes you drilled and patched will never show and they should not ever get any water at this point.

Gotcha, I may resort to that for the forward one, but the second one back is behind the fridge; so I would need to remove it.

I was considering welding a square drive tip to a piece of steel to make an ultra low profile right angle driver tip, but I suspect that I will still need to repair the old holes.

I replaced my broken guide blocks with the top totally down. I removed ALL guide rails to pick up as much top to bottom slop as I could. I ground #2 square drive bits to shorten them. Levered with a crowbar to get the biggest gap between top & bottom halves at each screw location. I stepped thru the various lengths of drive bits and finished with the locking pliers to get the old screws out. Did the reverse to install new stainless screws with the new guide blocks.

hope this helps
